Swim with the Tide
Let go of the ways you thought life
would unfold; the holding of plans
or dreams or expectations—Let it
all go. Save your strength to swim
with the tide.
—Danna Faulds
If there was ever a year to let go of plans and expectations, this is it.
When the lock down began and I couldn’t meet with clients in person, I challenged myself to embrace new technology in order to reach people in a different way. I offered video classes and zoom sessions, posted on social media and branched out into remote private therapy sessions. There were the expected snafus. For one class, I couldn’t get into my zoom account. I sent last minute google meet invitations but didn’t have time to learn how to use it well, so I ended up recording my class on zoom later in the day. Except that I forgot to press the “record” button.
I discovered that adding technology to everything I did made things harder for me and my clients, and took away a lot of the fun we had in interacting. Now that I’ve backed off using technology and doing everything remotely, I have a greater sense of ease and acceptance with what I do and what I can offer. I let go of my old way of doing things to discover that my old way works best for me and my clients. I’m not trying to recover the past but figuring out how to use what I do best in this new reality.
