Messages from the Universe
a small dew droplet
sits atop a bright green leaf
morning air is a gift
~ T. Iverson
I love going out in my garden in the morning when everything is so fresh and inviting. I feel hopeful when I see the signs of spring and feel the warmth of the sun.
An amazing thing about dew is that it magnifies the light. The light catches my eye and makes me more aware of what I’m looking at. The universe does this because often I don’t pay attention to what I see. Things fade into the background. I think the world is always communicating with us. Our job is to hear the messages. A glistening dewdrop is one of the ways in which the universe invites me to notice it, to spend time developing a relationship with it. Each message is a gift to my senses: something that reminds me to feel gratitude or that spurs greater responsibility.
Every time I engage with the world in this way, I feel a sense of connection to it. It becomes more personal and meaningful. No, the world was not created just for me. But the world and I were both created to enjoy and care for each other. When I experience the beauty and gifts of the natural world, it helps me to see that in all creation. The more I feel gratitude and responsibility for the green leaves and budding plants, the easier it is to extend that feeling to the people who live in this world, whether or not they have heard the same messages I have.
